server-sidetracking.
Better measurement for GA4, Google Ads and Meta. What server-side tracking is, what it gets you, and what it takes to set it up properly.
Ad platforms optimise for whatever you tell them. Miss some of your conversions, or send form fills instead of revenue, and they learn the wrong lesson. With your budget.
Your data.
Your server.
Your rules.
where the data goes
Server-side tracking sends your conversions to the platforms that optimise on them.

Google Tag Manager
browser or server
The difference in one table.
| Browser (client-side) | Server-side | |
|---|---|---|
| How | Every tag in the browser sends its own data to Google, Meta and others | The browser sends one stream to your server, which decides what goes where |
| Ad blockers | Block some of the measurement | Less affected, because data runs through your own domain |
| Control | Every tag sees everything the browser sees | You decide what each platform receives, and can clean it up first |
| Speed | Lots of scripts on your pages | Fewer scripts in the browser, a faster site |
| Revenue | Hard to send CRM data or offline sales | CRM revenue and offline conversions back to Google and Meta |
Server-side tracking doesn't replace consent. What you may not measure without cookie consent, you may not measure server-side either.
what it gets you
The goal isn't more data. It's better decisions, by you and by the algorithms.
(01) Google Ads
Enhanced conversions and offline conversion imports, so Google bids on people who become customers, not just people who fill in a form.
(02) Meta
The Conversions API alongside the pixel, with deduplicated events. Meta sees more of your conversions and learns faster who your customer is.
(03) GA4
Cleaner data, your own domain, less loss to ad blockers and browser restrictions. Reports you can trust again.
(04) Privacy
You decide what leaves your server. Personal data can be hashed or removed before any platform sees it.
how we set it up
From audit to measurement that adds up.
Audit
What's measured now, what's missing, what's counted twice? Including your cookie banner and consent mode.
Measurement plan
Which events and conversions actually matter, and what they're worth. Matched to your CRM.
Server container
A server-side Google Tag Manager container on your own subdomain.
Connections
GA4, Google Ads, the Meta Conversions API, and where possible revenue from your CRM back to the platforms.
Checks
Measurements compared side by side until they add up, and documented so your team knows what's running.
questions
The questions we get asked most.
What's the difference between server-side tracking and server-side tagging?
In practice, nothing. Server-side tagging is the technique (tags running on a server instead of in the browser); server-side tracking is what you do with it: measure.
Is server-side tracking GDPR compliant?
It makes it easier to control what data you share, but it doesn't replace consent. We set it up together with your cookie banner and Google's consent mode.
What is the Meta Conversions API?
Meta's way of receiving conversions from your server rather than only from the pixel in the browser. Used together, with deduplication, Meta sees more of your results.
What does server-side tracking cost?
Two parts: the setup, one-off, and hosting for the server container, usually a small monthly amount. We give a price after a short tracking check.
Do I need it?
If you advertise seriously on Google or Meta, almost always. With a small budget and one channel, good browser tracking with enhanced conversions can do for now.
